Veteran Actor and Folk Singer, Jimi Solanke, Passes Away at 81, Leaving a Void in Nigeria's Entertainment Landscape
The Nigerian entertainment industry mourns the loss of a distinguished figure, veteran actor, folk singer, legendary poet, and playwright, Jimi Solanke, who peacefully departed this world on Monday at the age of 81. The accomplished artist, revered for his contributions to the cultural and artistic fabric of Nigeria, succumbed to the hands of death while being rushed from his country home in Ipara Remo, Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun State, to Babcock University Teaching Hospital in Ilisan.
Chief Solanke's health had been a concern, with reports indicating his frequent hospital visits since December. The news of his passing was confirmed by Hon Dickson Awolaja, who represents Remo North State Constituency at the state Assembly. Expressing his condolences, Hon Awolaja remarked, “I got wind of the demise of Pa Jimi Solanke not long ago. His death is no doubt another big loss to us in Remo North and Ogun State as a whole, given his worthy contributions to the development of our dear nation. May his soul rest in peace.”
Known for his remarkable performances in iconic productions like "Kongi’s Harvest," "Sango," and "Shadow Parties," Jimi Solanke, affectionately referred to as Uncle Jimi, had left an indelible mark on the entertainment landscape.
