APC Chieftain Urges South-West Governors to Equip Amotekun with Modern Tools Amid Rising Insecurity
In the face of escalating insecurity in the South-West region of Nigeria, Mr. Morayo Lebi, a prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, has urged governors in the region to bolster the capabilities of the South-West Security Network Agencies, popularly known as Amotekun, with modern equipment.
The call comes amidst heightened concerns following recent tragic incidents, including the killings of two monarchs in Ekiti State and the abduction of 25 school children and four staff members by suspected gunmen in the Emure community, also in Ekiti State.
While the victims have been released, Lebi emphasized the urgency of equipping security outfits like Amotekun with modern weaponry to effectively combat such threats. He underscored the disparity between criminals wielding sophisticated firearms like AK-47s and security personnel operating with outdated and insufficient equipment.
Addressing the issue in Akure, the state capital, on Tuesday, Lebi, who is both a legal practitioner and a governorship aspirant of the APC, highlighted the root cause of insecurity as stemming from youth unemployment. He stressed the importance of providing employment opportunities and essential skills to mitigate this challenge.
Additionally, Lebi articulated his vision for Ondo State, expressing his aspiration to lead the state towards comprehensive development and prosperity. He underscored the untapped potential of the state's abundant human and material resources, advocating for effective governance to transform Ondo into a model state and a beacon of progress within Nigeria.
