Renaissance University, Ugbawka, Enugu State, on Saturday, hosted its 18th matriculation ceremony, welcoming a fresh cohort of students into its various colleges in a colorful and well-organized event. The event was graced by university management, academic staff, parents, and well-wishers.
The ceremony commenced with an opening remark by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. T.C. Eze, who officially welcomed the new students and their families to the institution. In his speech, the Vice Chancellor emphasized the university’s commitment to academic excellence and moral discipline.
“Renaissance University is a full-boarding institution with a robust feeding program designed to reduce financial pressure on parents and save our students from consuming harmful substances outside the school environment," Prof. Eze stated. He further assured attendees that the institution maintains a zero-tolerance policy for cultism, drug, or substance abuse.
“We operate an ecumenical system. All Christian denominations are welcome here, and the spiritual life of our students is of utmost priority,” he added, stressing the holistic development of students under the university’s care.
Following the Vice Chancellor’s address, the University Registrar, Mr. Adedeji Olusola, conducted the matriculation proceedings. Students from the College of Health Sciences, College of Computing, College of Natural and Applied Sciences, and College of Management took the matriculation oath after being presented by their respective deans.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof. C.O. Okani, admonished the matriculating students to manage their time, choosing friends carefully, respect their lecturers and ensure that they are good ambassadors of their various families. He noted, “A healthy student is a productive student. Students must prioritize their health while pursuing academic success"
Parents were visibly overjoyed as they witnessed their children officially inducted into the university community. One parent, Mr. Edeh, expressed amazement at the infrastructural transformation on campus. “I visited just a year ago, and I’m surprised at the massive changes I see now. The progress is commendable,” he said.
Another parent, Mrs. Okafor, appreciated the university’s efforts in ensuring student security. “Knowing my child is safe gives me peace. The security measures here are impressive," she noted.
A parent, Dr. Lawal, also shared his excitement: “Bringing my three children from the North to study at Renaissance University has proven to be a worthwhile investment. I am particularly grateful to the management for the tuition discounts I received. It shows that this institution values education and family support."
The event climaxed with a goodwill message and benediction by the Chancellor, His Grace, Most Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Olisa Chukwuma, OON, who lauded the management for organizing a successful matriculation. He admonished students to be focused, dress decently, and uphold the values of the university. He ended the event with a heartfelt prayer, blessing the students, parents, staff, and the university’s visitor.
The ceremony not only marked the beginning of a new academic journey for the students but also reaffirmed Renaissance University’s vision of raising morally upright and academically sound graduates.
