Abducted Infant Rescued in Lagos Market as Maid Confesses to N800,000 Sale
Lagos, 5th February 2024 A distressing incident unfolded in the Shomolu area of Lagos State as a baby, allegedly sold by a maid for the sum of N800,000, was discovered in Alade Market after a series of alarming events.
On Saturday, an individual using the Twitter handle #Dannysleek, in now-deleted tweets, sounded the alarm regarding a maid hired through an agency who had reportedly absconded with the infant. The maid, identified as Ruth Okezie from Anambra State, allegedly disappeared with the baby from a residence in Shomolu at approximately 2 am on Saturday.
Following the viral report on social media, subsequent updates revealed that the maid, Ruth Okezie, was located in Ikorodu without the baby. Shockingly, she confessed to selling the child for N800,000.
In a recent post on Monday morning, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed that the kidnapped baby was successfully rescued by the police after being abandoned in Alade Market in the Shomolu area of the state.
Hundeyin stated, “Due to intense manhunt and pressure from the police, the buyer in the early hours of today abandoned the baby in Alade Market, Shomolu. The baby was promptly rescued by the police."
The revelation of such a heart-wrenching incident has sparked widespread concern and calls for increased vigilance to protect vulnerable members of society. Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged sale of the baby, aiming to bring the culprits to justice and ensure the safety of children in domestic settings.
