Late Former Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu Remembered for Judicial Reform and Security Initiatives
In a poignant tribute, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has honored the legacy of the late former governor of the state, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu. Aiyedatiwa praised Akeredolu's enduring contributions to strengthening the judicial system and enhancing security measures during his tenure.
Speaking at a special court session convened in honor of the late governor at the state High Court headquarters in Akure, Governor Aiyedatiwa reflected on Akeredolu's commitment to upholding the rule of law and combating criminal activities. He remarked that Akeredolu's administration utilized legal frameworks effectively to tackle crime, leaving a lasting impact on the state's security landscape.
Governor Aiyedatiwa, who assumed office following Akeredolu's passing in December 2023, highlighted Akeredolu's pivotal role in enacting legislation aimed at bolstering security, notably the establishment of the state security network agency, popularly known as Amotekun. He underscored Akeredolu's dedication to expeditious lawmaking, citing various bills sponsored by the late governor to address key issues such as security, accountability, and women's rights.
"We remember with pride today his (Akeredolu) sense of urgency and intervention and unusual dedication to the cause of access to justice," Governor Aiyedatiwa remarked. "His support for the Multidoor Court System, improved delivery of the Alternate Dispute Resolution system, and welfare for judges and judicial officers, are well documented."
Among the legislative milestones highlighted by Governor Aiyedatiwa were bills establishing the Ondo State Security Trust Fund, the State Public Complaints, Financial Crime and Anti-Corruption Commission, and regulations governing livestock rearing and grazing, including the establishment of ranches. Akeredolu's proactive approach to governance and his unwavering commitment to the welfare and security of Ondo State residents were celebrated as enduring aspects of his leadership.
As the people of Ondo State gathered to pay their respects, the legacy of Rotimi Akeredolu was celebrated not only as a leader but as a visionary who left an indelible mark on the state's legal and security frameworks.
