Former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, Open to Cooperation with Judicial Probe Commissions
Samuel Ortom, the immediate past Governor of Benue State, has welcomed the inauguration of two judicial commissions by his successor, Governor Hyacinth Alia, aimed at investigating the activities of his administration between 2015 and 2023.
In a statement released by his media aide, Terver Akase, on Tuesday, Ortom reiterated his commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance, emphasizing his willingness to cooperate with the probe panels as long as the investigations are conducted within the confines of the law.
The statement highlighted Ortom's readiness to provide any necessary information or clarification to the probe panels and encouraged his former appointees to do the same when called upon.
Ortom's stance on accountability and transparency dates back to August last year when he expressed his readiness to respond to issues concerning his administration whenever required. The former governor's commitment to the rule of law and his preparedness to defend his administration have been consistent themes in his public statements.
Addressing recent speculations regarding a potential switch in political allegiance, Ortom clarified on Monday that he remains a member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). Speaking at an expanded executive committee meeting of the party, Ortom emphasized the importance of unity within the PDP in Benue State, urging members to move forward collectively despite setbacks experienced during the 2023 general elections.
