Kwara State Government Warns Against Illegal Charges for NECO Registration
The Kwara State Government has issued a stern warning to Principals of Senior Secondary Schools within the state against imposing illegal charges for the registration of students for the 2024 National Examination Council (NECO) examinations.
Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu, the State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, delivered the cautionary message during a registration kick-off event for the 2024 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination. The event was marked by a statement from Peter Amogbonjaye, the Press Secretary in the Ministry, released on Monday.
According to the statement, the government has set the approved total fee for the 2024 NECO examination at N28,500 per student. This amount covers various charges, including NECO Fee (N22,250), E-registration charges (N1,250), administrative charges (N2,000), and additional fees for items like a four-figure table, waterproof certificate, and jacket/folder.
Modibbo-Kawu stressed that any attempt by Principals to impose additional charges beyond the approved fee would not be tolerated. She warned that violators would face legal consequences and urged them to uphold integrity during examinations, emphasizing the government's zero-tolerance policy towards examination malpractices.
Expressing appreciation for the Principals' efforts in enhancing educational standards, Modibbo-Kawu solicited continued support for the state government's initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of teachers and citizens. She highlighted recent government actions, including the payment of reaccreditation fees for schools and subsidizing the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) fees for JSS 3 students.
Mallam Bello Abubakar, representing the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for advancements in the education sector. He urged teachers to remain committed to their duties, reciprocating the government's efforts to improve their welfare.
Mrs. Olanrewaju Rebecca, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, urged Principals to maintain integrity throughout the examination process and avoid any actions that could tarnish their reputation.
Comrade Usman Abdullahi, President of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools in the State, expressed gratitude to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for prioritizing education. He pledged to uphold high standards in fulfilling their responsibilities, reflecting the confidence placed in them by the government.
