INEC Reveals 19 Parties Set for Governorship Primaries in State; APC Advised on Screening Process
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that 19 political parties have notified the commission about their intention to conduct primaries for the upcoming governorship election in the state. The primaries are scheduled to take place between April 6 and 27, with the main election slated for November 16, 2024.
During a meeting with political party representatives at the INEC office in Akure, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, disclosed the participation of major parties such as the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and several others including Accord Party, Action Alliance, African Action Congress, and All Progressives Grand Alliance, among others.
Babalola emphasized the significance of the party primaries in the democratic process, urging all parties to strictly adhere to their guidelines, rules, and electoral laws to ensure integrity and success.
Meanwhile, as the APC prepares for its primary election, the Omoluabi Coalition Group has advised the party to conduct thorough screening of aspirants to ensure the selection of the most qualified candidate for the governorship election. Comrade Tunji Balogun, Director General of the group, endorsed Chief Olusola Oke as the most suitable candidate, citing his grassroots political experience and understanding of the state's dynamics. The coalition claimed to have conducted background checks on all aspirants before lending their support to Chief Oke.
