Nigerian Businessman Dies Watching Nigeria-South Africa Match in Ivory Coast
An Anambra State-born businessman, Chief Osondu Nwoye, reportedly passed away while watching the Nigeria versus South Africa semifinal match on Wednesday. The tragic incident occurred after the disallowance of Nigeria's second goal, which led to a penalty for South Africa, resulting in an equalizer.
Chief Nwoye, a resident of Abidjan, Ivory Coast, was described as the richest Igbo businessman based in the country. His sudden demise was announced via a post on social media by blogger Chukwudi Izuchukwu.
According to the post, Chief Nwoye, a fervent supporter of the Super Eagles, traveled to Bouake, the city hosting the match, to watch his beloved team in action. Witnesses recounted his jubilation when Victor Osimen scored what appeared to be the second goal, only for it to be later canceled by VAR. The shock of the decision and subsequent penalty for South Africa allegedly caused Chief Nwoye to collapse inside the stadium.
