Nigerian Army Arrests Female Kidnapper in Taraba During Ransom Pickup
A suspected female kidnapper, identified as Janet Igohia, was apprehended by troops from the 93 Battalion under the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Taraba State as she attempted to collect ransom money for an abducted victim.
According to a statement by Lieutenant Oni Olubodunde, Acting Assistant Director of the 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, troops received information about extremist groups and insurgents' activities around Chanchanji and Sai communities planning to move to a drop zone where ransom money for abducted victims would be deposited.
Troops deployed at Chanchanji laid in wait and arrested Janet Igohia, 31, at about 10:00 am after she picked up the sum of N1.5 million, intended as ransom payment.
Igohia confessed to being married to Voryor Gata, the leader of a violent extremist group in southern Taraba. She also disclosed her past marriages to notorious criminals, including late Terkibi Gemaga, also known as Mopol, and late Gana Terwase, both of whom were involved in criminal activities and were killed by security forces in previous operations.
In a related development, troops deployed at Mararaba Baissa community of Donga Local Government Area arrested two suspected gunrunners allegedly involved in extra-judicial killings and cattle rustling. The suspects, Alhaji Adamu Damisa and Usman Isah, were found in possession of proceeds from illegal activities and mobile phones.
The statement emphasized the Brigade's commitment to dismantling criminal networks operating in Taraba State and urged the public to continue supporting security agencies by providing credible and timely information on criminal activities.
The arrest underscores the Nigerian Army's ongoing efforts to combat crime and ensure the safety and security of citizens in Taraba State.
