Lagos State Governor Announces N3.1bn Disbursement to Retirees
In a recent announcement, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, revealed plans to disburse N3.1 billion to approximately 1,000 retirees who served diligently under the Contributory Pension Scheme. Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed gratitude for the retirees' sacrifices, emphasizing that their invaluable contributions have significantly shaped the state's history.
Highlighting the administration's commitment to retirees' welfare, Governor Sanwo-Olu underscored the importance of honoring their service, stating, "Prioritizing the welfare of those who’ve shaped Lagos’ history is not just a commitment; it’s our legacy."
This disbursement follows previous efforts, with the administration having already distributed over N60 billion in pension funds to more than 17,000 retirees since its inception. The governor assured continued efforts to support retirees and build a stronger, caring Lagos.
Previously, in August 2023, the Lagos State Government disbursed N2.017 billion in retirement benefits to 644 retirees, representing their past service benefits before the introduction of the Contributory Pension Scheme in 2007.
