Dignitaries from across Nigeria, including Governors Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, convened in Abeokuta on Friday to bid farewell to Major General Ekundayo Opaleye (retd.), former military administrator of old Ondo State. Also in attendance was the former governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun.

Opaleye, aged 77, passed away on November 18, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication. He served as the Military Administrator of old Ondo State between 1986 and 1987.

During the ceremony at the Green Legacy Resorts Hall, Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Governor Abiodun, represented by his deputy Noimot Salako-Oyedele, paid tribute to Opaleye's patriotism, courage, and leadership. He emphasized Opaleye's continued impact even after retirement, highlighting his role in the Owu Kingdom and his support for the current administration.

Governor Abiodun extended heartfelt condolences to Opaleye’s family and the people of Ogun State, praying for strength to bear the loss.

In his remarks, Governor Aiyedatiwa praised Opaleye as an exceptional administrator and a dutiful soldier who served the nation with merit. Represented by his Deputy, Olayide Adelami, he recalled Opaleye's significant contributions to the development of old Ondo State, particularly his introduction of the 'due process' in government operations.

Aiyedatiwa expressed condolences on behalf of the government and people of Ondo State to the Ogun State government, acknowledging Opaleye's irreplaceable loss to both states and the nation.
