APC Announces 12 Aspirants for Edo State Primary Election Screening

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled the list of 12 aspirants set to undergo screening ahead of the party's primary election in Edo State, scheduled for February 17. The announcement was made in a statement issued by the National Organising Secretary of the APC, Suleiman Arugungu, in Abuja.

The race to select a formidable candidate for the party in Edo State commenced in January, with a total of 23 aspirants initially expressing their interest. However, only 12 candidates have purchased the N50 million Expression of Interest and Nomination forms required for participation in the primaries.

Among the successful aspirants are prominent figures such as the immediate past state Chairman of APC, Gideon Ikhine; former Minister of State for National Economic Planning, Clem Agba; and Senator Monday Okpebholo, representing Edo Central. Also included are Lucky Imasuen, a former deputy governor; Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, a former governorship candidate; and Anamero Dekeri, the lawmaker representing Etsako Federal Constituency.

Completing the list are Blessing Agbohmere, ex-Zonal Organising Secretary for South-South; Dennis Idahosa, a member of the House of Representatives; Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe, a former permanent secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security; Col. David Imuse; Major General Charles Airhiavbere (retd); and Emmanuel Momoh.

With the screening process imminent, the APC anticipates a rigorous evaluation of each aspirant's credentials and suitability to carry the party's banner in the forthcoming election. As the political landscape in Edo State continues to evolve, all eyes are on these aspirants as they vie for the party's nomination and, ultimately, the opportunity to lead the state forward.
