The Nigerian military has announced the elimination of over 30 terrorists during a precision airstrike in Zamfara State, marking another major success in the ongoing fight against banditry in the North West.
The Air Component of Operation Fasan Yamma (OPFY) confirmed the strike in a statement released on Thursday, August 7, by Captain David Adewusi, the Media Information Officer of the operation.
According to Capt. Adewusi, the coordinated airstrike was carried out on Sunday, August 4, 2025, after credible intelligence revealed that a large number of terrorists had gathered for a wedding ceremony at the foot of Asola Hills, located in Yankuzo Ward, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
“The strike, which was conducted based on credible intelligence, targeted a large assembly of terrorists from the Faskari and Kankara axis of Katsina State, as well as various parts of Zamfara State,” Capt. Adewusi said.
The operation reportedly neutralized dozens of armed terrorists, while several others sustained life-threatening injuries. Military sources disclosed that the injured fighters were evacuated by their colleagues to Yankuzo village for urgent treatment.
Following the airstrike, troops of 1 Brigade under Sector 2 of OPFY launched a ground follow-up operation in the early hours of August 5, successfully fighting through an ambush laid by fleeing terrorists along the route to the village.
“Locals and other reliable sources from the area have confirmed that no fewer than 30 terrorists were neutralized during the air interdiction and follow-up operations,” Capt. Adewusi added.
He also revealed that four terrorist collaborators from Kunchin Kalgo village in Tsafe LGA sustained critical injuries in the process.
Residents of Yankuzo, Tsafe, and surrounding communities, who have endured repeated terrorist attacks in recent months, reportedly expressed relief following the military success.
“Operation Fasan Yamma assures the people of Zamfara State and the North West of its continued commitment to ensuring peace and security in the zone,” the statement concluded.
