The Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly attempting to rape two women he caught stealing pepper on a farm in Ita-Olokan, Osogbo.
In a statement on Monday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Kehinde Adeleke, said the farm where the women were caught does not belong to the suspect. She explained that after apprehending them, the man threatened to report them to security agents unless they agreed to have sex with him.
“According to the suspect’s confessional statement, he saw two ladies plucking pepper in someone’s farm and challenged them. He told them they would be handed over to law enforcement, but the ladies started begging him. He later demanded to have carnal knowledge of both as the only way to avoid being reported,” Adeleke said.
Adeleke noted that while one of the women escaped during the struggle, the suspect pinned the other to the ground and physically assaulted her.
“The suspect explained further that he didn’t have his way with the lady, but only laid on her and ejaculated because he feared the one who escaped might call people for help,” she added.
Other Arrests for Land Encroachment
In a separate development, Adeleke confirmed that two other suspects had been arrested for illegally encroaching on government land at Oke-Osun.
“They destroyed demarcations on the land and excavated sand. Our investigation revealed that many truck drivers have been going to the land to excavate and sell sand to unsuspecting members of the public,” Adeleke said.
Command’s Warning
The Osun NSCDC Commandant, Igbalawole Sotiyo, vowed to rid the state of criminal elements and urged residents to be vigilant.
“We call on members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities to the Command for swift action,” Sotiyo said.
