Delta Police Apprehend Five Suspects Linked to Kidnapping, Robbery, and Cult Activities
In a significant breakthrough, the Delta State Police Command has successfully apprehended five individuals allegedly involved in a series of heinous crimes including kidnapping, robbery, and cultism. The development was confirmed by SP Edafe Bright, the command’s spokesperson, in an official statement released on Thursday.
The statement outlined that among the arrested suspects were three individuals identified as Yakubu Ya’u, aged 20, Musa Yakubu, aged 25, and a Cameroonian national named Abdulahi Mohammed, aged 38. These individuals were reportedly implicated in several kidnapping incidents across various areas within the state.
According to the statement, intelligence operations conducted by law enforcement agencies pointed towards Yakubu Ya’u, a 20-year-old resident of Kaduna, as a key perpetrator operating in the Warri axis. Subsequent investigations led by the Delta State Police, in collaboration with operatives from the Force Intelligence Unit, Abuja, culminated in the successful apprehension of Ya’u on May 11, 2024.
Furthermore, thorough interrogations of Ya’u resulted in the identification and subsequent arrest of two additional members of the criminal network. Musa Yakubu, hailing from Kogi State, and Abdulahi Mohammed, a Cameroonian national, were apprehended on May 12, 2024.
During the course of the investigation, victims positively identified the apprehended suspects. This pivotal information guided law enforcement to Ughwagba Community in Okpe LGA, where a cache of weapons, including two automatic pump-action guns, one live cartridge, and a knife, were recovered from concealment in the bush.
The Delta State Police Command emphasized that the investigations remain ongoing, with concerted efforts aimed at capturing other fugitive members of the criminal syndicate.
In a separate incident, the statement highlighted the arrest of 22-year-old Michael Udo by police personnel attached to the Ozoro division on May 10, 2024, further underscoring the command's commitment to maintaining law and order within the state.
The apprehension of these suspects marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to combat crime and ensure the safety and security of residents in Delta State.
