Enugu State Police and Neighbourhood Watch Rescue Kidnapped Victims After Gun Battle

Enugu State Police Command, in collaboration with the Neighbourhood Watch Group, successfully rescued kidnapped victims following a fierce gun duel with abductors along Eke/Ebe Road in Udi Local Government Area. According to a statement by DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the State Police Public Relations Officer, the rescue operation occurred on Wednesday.

The statement revealed that operatives from Ezinze Police Division, supported by the Neighbourhood Watch Group, swiftly responded to a distress call on March 31, 2024, around 6:15 p.m. The victims, who were allegedly kidnapped around 4:55 p.m. while traveling in two Mercedes Benz 4Matic Jeeps, were rescued after the abductors abandoned them and fled into the forest.

Despite the successful rescue, efforts to capture the fleeing abductors are still ongoing. However, the Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, condemned a viral video alleging negligence by another police team. The video claimed that the team failed to rescue the victims despite being aware of the situation. The Commissioner clarified that the second team awaited necessary intelligence before proceeding into the forest to avoid collateral damage.

CP Uzuegbu described the viral video as a mischievous attempt to undermine the efforts of the police in combating crime in Enugu State. He emphasized the commitment of the command to eradicate criminal activities despite such attempts to discredit their work.
