Widow of Late Ondo State Governor Lambastes Niece Over Political Allegiance
Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the widow of the late former governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has publicly criticized her husband's niece, Funke Akeredolu Aruna, for her allegiance to the incumbent governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, ahead of the upcoming governorship election in the state.
In a scathing post shared on her Instagram page on Monday morning, Betty didn't mince words, describing Funke as "shameless" and casting doubt on her purported luck. She wrote, "Behold the face of Aketi’s niece, Funke Akeredolu Aruna, the former deputy chief protocol to Aketi, shamelessly parades as ‘I am lucky’. Bloody serpent! Time will tell if she is truly lucky!"
The rift within the Akeredolu family comes amidst the political landscape gearing up for the forthcoming election. Lucky Aiyedatiwa assumed office as the Governor of Ondo State on December 27, 2023, following the demise of his predecessor, Akeredolu, who succumbed to prostate cancer in Germany at the age of 67.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has already set the stage for political activities in Ondo State, scheduling the governorship primary for April 16, 2024, with the main election slated for November.
