President Tinubu Chairs Federal Executive Council Meeting in Abuja

President Bola Tinubu is currently leading the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Aso Chamber of the State House, Abuja. Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Head of Service Dr. Folashade Yemi Esan, and approximately 45 ministers are in attendance for the 10th FEC session of the administration.

The council is set to deliberate on a memorandum seeking approval for the "revamping of the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Fund," as noted by PUNCH Online.

Ahead of the President's arrival, the SGF highlighted a change in the agenda, with item #3 replaced by 'Approval for the revamping of the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Fund.'

President Tinubu inaugurated the FEC on August 28, 2023, transitioning meetings from Wednesdays to Mondays.

The Federal Executive Council, recognized under Article 144 (5) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), serves as the body of Ministers established by the President to assist in the functions of government. Its responsibilities include policy formulation, project execution, and aiding the President in his executive duties.

The council, housed in the Cabinet Affairs Office of the SGF, comprises the President, Vice President, and appointed ministers. As per Article 148 (2) of the Constitution, the President seeks advice or acts on recommendations from other advisory bodies such as the Council of State and the National Security Council.

The FEC typically convenes weekly to deliberate on scheduled items and make decisions. However, President Tinubu's administration has held only ten meetings in the past 31 weeks since inauguration.

On October 16, 2023, Information Minister Mohammed Idris clarified that FEC meetings occur on Mondays, with flexibility based on agenda items. If no issues require discussion, meetings are postponed to the following week.
