Police Officer, Security Guard Killed in Kogi State Bank Robbery
New details have emerged regarding the tragic robbery incident that occurred last Thursday in Kogi State, revealing the loss of one police officer and one security guard during a confrontation with armed robbers.
The State Commissioner of Police, Bernard Onuoha, visited the crime scene in Ayingba on Friday, uncovering the grim aftermath of the attack.
According to reports by PUNCH online, the robbery occurred around 5 pm on Thursday, marked by intense gunfire as armed robbers targeted two banks in the area.
Eyewitnesses recounted how a group of armed robbers, estimated to be over a dozen, descended on the town with the aim of executing a large-scale robbery operation on multiple banks.
In a statement issued late Friday, the state police command confirmed the Commissioner's visit, condemning the audacious attack and swiftly deploying tactical teams to restore order.
The command's Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, disclosed that the Deputy Commissioner of the Criminal Investigation Department has been tasked with leading investigations to apprehend the culprits and ensure justice is served.
The police statement emphasized, "Consequent upon the Ayingba banks robbery as well as the attacks on police stations on Thursday 7/3/2024, the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command, CP Bethrand C. Onuoha, today, 08/03/2024 visited the scenes for on-the-spot assessment, and vowed that the hoodlums will be apprehended."
Tragically, one police constable lost his life during the exchange of gunfire with the criminals. Despite the loss, the Commissioner of Police affirmed the command's unwavering commitment to collaborating with other security agencies and stakeholders to safeguard the state.
CP Onuoha urged citizens to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies regarding suspicious activities within their communities, emphasizing the collective responsibility in maintaining peace and security in Kogi State.
