Former President Obasanjo Unveils New Book on Leadership Wisdom
Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has launched a new book titled "The Art of Leading: Unconventional Wisdom from Biblical Leaders," as part of his 87th birthday celebration.
The unveiling took place on Monday at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, as announced by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi.
During the launch and dinner event, Obasanjo emphasized the critical role of quality leadership in Africa's progress, stating that without it, the continent would not advance significantly.
The book, reviewed by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Hassan Kukah, focuses on how Christians can influence politics and underscores the importance of leaders cooperating with divine grace.
Guest of honor, former Ghanaian President John Mahama, highlighted the necessity for leaders to lead with wisdom, echoing the sentiments expressed in Obasanjo's new literary work.
The event was attended by dignitaries including traditional rulers, business leaders, members of the diplomatic corps, academics, and close associates of the former President.
Separately, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun hailed Obasanjo as a leading advocate for political emancipation and good governance, underscoring his global influence while remaining connected to his cultural heritage.
The governor made these remarks during a lecture themed "Quality Leadership and Inclusive Democracy as Catalysts for Development in a Strife-Ridden World," held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan, who chaired the lecture, identified access to justice, electoral quality, and tribalism as impediments to effective leadership in Africa, stressing the importance of inclusivity in governance.
Danilo Turk, former President of Slovenia and Chairman of Club De Madrid, also shared insights, mentioning the club's initiative to combat corruption globally.
Obasanjo's new book and the discussions at the event underscore the ongoing efforts to promote effective leadership and good governance in Africa and beyond.
