Nine Travellers Kidnapped Along Kabba/Obajana/Lokoja Road in Kogi State
A harrowing incident unfolded last Saturday along the Kabba/Obajana/Lokoja Road in Kogi State, as gunmen reportedly abducted nine travellers in the Oshokoshoko area.
According to reports, the abduction took place between 4 pm and 5 pm, targeting a group that included two students, three women, and four men.
Elupo Eliazer, a person with a disability whose wife was among the victims, recounted the ordeal, stating that the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N30 million. However, negotiations led to a reduced demand of N2.6 million.
Eliazer expressed anguish over the situation, revealing that he and his wife were en route to attend a church convention in Lokoja. He narrowly avoided being part of the abducted group by traveling separately due to space constraints in the vehicle.
The victims were reportedly traveling from the Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall in Kabba when they were ambushed by the assailants. By the time Eliazer's vehicle arrived at the scene, the kidnappers had already taken the occupants into the bush.
Efforts to obtain further details from the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, have been unsuccessful at the time of this report. However, authorities have been urged to swiftly address the situation and ensure the safe return of the abducted individuals.
The incident serves as a chilling reminder of the persistent security challenges facing travelers on Nigerian highways, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced measures to combat criminal activities such as kidnapping and ensure the safety of citizens.
