Rivers APC Challenges Governor Fubara Over N144bn Allocation Spending

Tensions have heightened in Rivers State as the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership challenges Governor Siminalayi Fubara to provide a detailed account of the N144.2 billion federal allocation received by the state over the past five months. The APC alleges that there is scant evidence of tangible development projects corresponding to the significant funds disbursed.

In a rebuttal, the Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joseph Johnson, accused the APC of engaging in political maneuvers rather than addressing substantive issues.

During a meeting with the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, Chief Tony Okocha, the Chairman of the state APC Caretaker Committee, raised concerns about Governor Fubara's stewardship of the state's finances. Okocha highlighted the discrepancy between the substantial federal allocation and the lack of visible development initiatives.

Okocha expressed dismay over the absence of meaningful development projects, pointing to lavish street processions and media-sponsored rallies instead. He admonished against financial mismanagement and called for accountability, warning of consequences for any party members involved in malfeasance.

In response, Speaker Amaewhule reaffirmed the Assembly's commitment to enacting legislation that benefits the people of Rivers State. He emphasized the importance of legislative oversight and pledged to ensure adherence to the rule of law.

However, Commissioner Joseph Johnson defended the Fubara administration's record, asserting that the government had been prudent and transparent in its financial management. Johnson cited ongoing legacy projects, notably the Ring Road initiative, as evidence of the administration's commitment to development.

While tensions persist between the APC and the Fubara administration, the issue of transparency and accountability in government expenditure remains a contentious topic in Rivers State politics. As stakeholders continue to debate the allocation and utilization of public funds, the spotlight remains firmly on Governor Fubara's administration and its commitment to delivering tangible benefits to the people of the state.
