Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde Joins NLC Protest, Promises Relief from Hardship
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, stood in solidarity with the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Tuesday, participating in a peaceful demonstration aimed at addressing the prevailing challenges.
Assuring protesters during the rally, Governor Makinde conveyed optimism that the ongoing hardship would soon be alleviated.
The procession, initiated from the NLC state secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan, the state capital, progressed to Gate – NTA – Yemetu roundabout, where Governor Makinde merged with the demonstrators.
Addressing the gathering, the governor empathized with the populace, acknowledging the difficulties faced, and pledged his commitment to being instrumental in effecting positive change. He affirmed, “I am aware of the hardship in town and the difficulty the people are going through but I will be part of the generation that will fix the country.”
Furthermore, Governor Makinde assured the workers that their grievances and letters of protest would be duly conveyed to President Bola Tinubu.
Earlier, Kayode Martins, the state NLC Chairman, expressed concerns over the unbearable cost of living, particularly for the ordinary citizens. He emphasized, “The cost of living in Nigeria today is nothing to write home about, and the people are fed up, so that’s why we are on the street now.”
The participation of Governor Makinde in the protest underscores the collective determination to address socio-economic challenges and bring about meaningful change in Oyo State.
