Osun State House of Assembly Recalls Suspended Ede South Local Government Chairman
The Osun State House of Assembly has rescinded the suspension of Mr. Lukman Afolabi, the caretaker chairman of Ede South Local Government, who was suspended for alleged misconduct. Afolabi, who oversees one of the two local government areas in Ede town, the hometown of Governor Ademola Adeleke, had been directed to hand over to his vice immediately following the suspension.
The suspension, initially announced by Olamide Tiamiyu, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, cited misconduct as the reason for Afolabi's removal from office. However, efforts to obtain further clarification from Tiamiyu were unsuccessful.
According to a reliable source within the Assembly, Afolabi's alleged insult directed at Speaker Adewale Egbedun during a meeting held at the Assembly complex on Wednesday prompted his suspension.
However, in an update on Thursday, a statement from the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Olamide Tiamiyu, disclosed that the suspension had been lifted following a parliamentary meeting where members reviewed the investigations conducted. As a result, Speaker Adewale Egbedun reinstated Afolabi with immediate effect, urging him to focus on fulfilling his duties. The Assembly reiterated its commitment to oversight functions and ensuring the prompt delivery of democratic dividends to the populace.
