Nigeria Air Force Destroys Terrorist Arms Storage Facility in Niger State
In a decisive operation, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has obliterated an arms storage facility belonging to one of Niger State's most wanted terrorists, intensifying efforts under Operation WHIRL PUNCH to root out terrorist activities in the Northwest and North Central regions of Nigeria.
Edward Gabkwet, Air Vice Marshal and spokesman for the Air Force, revealed the success of the operation in a statement released on Tuesday. According to Gabkwet, credible intelligence led the military to the terrorists' storage facility, located in Palele near Shiroro in Niger State.
"NAF aircraft, operating under Operation WHIRL PUNCH, executed strikes on March 15, 2024, targeting and destroying the terrorists' logistics storage," Gabkwet stated.
He emphasized that the operation was meticulously planned, with authorization obtained before the strike. The destruction of the arms and ammunition was confirmed by a secondary explosion, indicating the precision and effectiveness of the operation.
Gabkwet highlighted the significance of the operation, noting that the weapons destroyed were linked to a notorious terrorist kingpin listed among the most wanted criminals. The successful strike not only dealt a blow to the terrorist group but also bolstered security in the region, particularly in Kaduna and Niger States.
Calling for continued support from the public in combating terrorism and other criminal activities, Gabkwet asserted that such operations have significantly weakened the capabilities of terrorist elements, reducing their ability to target innocent civilians.
The destruction of the terrorist arms storage facility marks a significant victory in the ongoing efforts to eradicate terrorism in Nigeria, underscoring the NAF's commitment to ensuring peace and security in the affected regions.
